If you love nature, the outdoors, the lake lifestyle, expansive views--but still want a charming downtown, the town of Antioch may be the place for you.

Antioch is located along the northern border of Illinois before you cross into the land of cheese (aka Wisconsin).  To the west of town is the Chain of Lakes.  In the center of town is a charming Main Street.  To the east and surrounding are a mix of older and newer homes and some well-priced newer subdivisions. And surrounding it all are acres and acres of natural forest preserves and smaller lakes.

Downtown Antioch

Antioch has plenty to offer it's residents and visitors.  With a picturesque historic downtown boasting shops and restaurants and dozens of family friendly events like Farmer's Markets and summer festivals, there is something for everyone. A highlight of the year is the re-creation of a Dickens Holiday Village in December through a Public Art Program.  There is also a Metra commuter train station in town for stress -free trips to Chicago.

Chain of Lakes

Located approximately 40 miles northwest of Chicago on Illinois Rte 173 and Rte 12, near the town of Antioch, the 7,200 acres Fox Chain O’Lakes are the largest single, inland, water-oriented, recreational asset in Northeastern Illinois. Weekend usage on the Chain hits about 60,000 on average and on holidays that figure rises to about 100,000 people. The Chain connects 11 lakes and offers a variety of recreational fun.  From power boating to kayaking, from fishing to lazing in the sun, and with dozens of boat-up restaurants, this recreational mecca offers fun for everyone.

Lakes, Preserves, Trails

Antioch is home to several other smaller lakes, nature preserves, parks and biking trails.  Raven Glen Forest Preserve is on the east side of Antioch. There, you'll be taken in by this preserve's rolling hills and scenic vistas. Two fishing piers extend onto 33-acre Timber Lake inviting you to cast a line or just enjoy the view. Two separate entrances and trail systems are divided by Timber Lake.

There are miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Housing Options

In Antioch, you can find tiny little cottages as well as spectacular waterfront homes. There are also plenty of well-priced newer homes in subdivisions throughout the town.  We just listed one such home in a great neighborhood called Red Wing View. This interesting smaller place has nice parks, walking paths, and natural areas all right within its private neighborhood.

The home at 1049 Goldfinch specifically has a great view out the back of a pond, trees and expansive views beyond.  Built in 2005, this home has everything you need--an open kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a center island, a two-story family room with fireplace, hardwood floors, first-floor office and a spacious master suite and bath.  Priced very well at $289,900, this home and all that Antioch offers can be yours.
