I grew up in a neighorhood in Wauconda, Illinois called "Larkdale." It was a simple neighborhood filled with blue collar, hard-working, huge families. There are six kids in my family and we were considered pretty average  by Larkdale standards. The family across the street had seven, another family nine, and several had more than a dozen. These homes were all about 1,000 square feet, most with only one bathroom. It's amazing how inventive our parents were with carving out space for everyone.

It's a great neighborhood with parks, ponds (we called them lagoons), sidewalks and a terrific elementary school (Robert Crown) at the end of the street.  When I grew up there it was an amazing place to go trick-or-treating and there were always kids to be found.

Today, it is much the same. And, now, some of the homes have been completely renovated.

I just listed a home like that. The previous owner did a full rehab in 2014--new roof, windows, plumbing, electric, flooring, etc. They knocked down walls and re-arranged rooms to give it an open feel. The kitchen has 42" maple cabinets with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. They also finished the basement and added a second full bath.

The current owners have added to the rehab with some designer decor and improved the landscaping in the back yard. From the lighting, to the window treatments, to the little extra touches, you will not find a home like this in Wauconda for under $200,000.

Plus this home is on one of those ponds (or lagoons....)  It is just big enough to go ice skating in the winter or to jump in a kayak for a peaceful afternoon.  The home is on just under a quarter acre and the water views just can't be beat.

Check out a video walk through of the home and meet the owner, Nicole, and see why she loves her house:
