There are certain things that my husband could buy without my approval that I'd be perfectly fine with...toilet paper, bottled water, dog food. My next house?  Ummm....not so much.

That's a BIG purchase. Yet, that arrangement worked out just fine for my buyers Scott and Cathryn who closed on their new house this summer and Cathryn never even stepped foot in the house. She arrived in town  the week after the closing and saw her home for the first time. When I asked her how she could be so comfortable, she said, "I trust my husband, he'll do a good job."  Nice.

Scott is an executive at a large company with its corporate headquarters in the Chicago suburbs. As members of that company's relocation team, we help many executives relocate to the area. Educating them about different towns around the suburbs, home values, schools, community life is just one of the ways we guide them in their home buying process.

In this case, we had extra help. Scott and Cathryn's teenage daughter was my secret asset. She flew up to Chicago to help her dad sort through the houses from Barrington to Antioch and all points in between. When Scott would say, "I think your mom would really like this house" his daughter would set him straight. When she walked into the home they purchased, she smiled and said, "This is it. Mom will love this house." We were under contract the next day.

But seriously, who wouldn't love this house? A Cape Cod style house with a front porch swing overlooking a pond?
