Live Here! Fish Here!
Annual Fishing Derby Huge Success
Third time is the charm! Although Mother Nature didn't cooperate on the planned & make-up dates, the annual LVVA Ice Fishing Derby on Bangs Lake was finally held on Saturday, March 2. A monster success, the event raised thousands and thousands of dollars for a local veterans support group. Over 400 fishermen (including many women and 41 children) attended the event coordinated by volunteers in the Lake View Villa neighborhood of Wauconda.
Hailed as the one of the largest ice fishing events in the Midwest, the derby showcases all that makes Wauconda, Illinois so special as a place to fish, play, and live.
Winning Catches
Thanks to generous sponsors, there were some big prizes awarded for those who caught the big fish.
This year, the biggest bass and perch were caught by young girls and the biggest Bluegill was caught by a boy in kindergarten!
The adults took home plenty of big prizes too that included shanties, fish finders, augers and even a full set of a tires.
